CLAT: National Law Universities and their Seat Availability

In India, National law universities (NLU) or National law schools are law schools founded
pursuant to the second-generation reforms for legal education sought to be implemented by
the Bar Council of India. These universities are public institutions established by the
government and are regulated by the Bar Council of India and the Ministry of Law and Justice
(India).
Admission to LLB and LLM in the National law schools in India is based on performance in
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). There are 21 National Law Universities that will offer seats
through CLAT.
At present, there are around 2538 seats in undergraduate CLAT 2021, while, around 724 seats
are available in CLAT PG. The total CLAT seats will get divided into several categories depending
upon the reservation policy of NLUs. To get an overview of CLAT, candidates must know how
many seats will be filled through CLAT 2021 and how many seats are available in top NLUs such
as NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, MNLU, Mumbai, etc.
CLAT participating institutes include not only the NLUs but also the 53 private colleges and
several other colleges, which also offer CLAT seats depending upon their intake capacity.
The CLAT seats will be segregated into different categories such as Gen, SC, ST, OBC, EWS and
the seat distribution will be governed by the reservation policy of the participating institutes.
